Music in Metro

Image
The Moscow Metro is a legal musical platform. For many years street musicians played at subway stations. Finally, a few years ago a unique decision was made to create a project called "Music in Metro". "Music in metro" is a project created by the Department of Transportation and the Moscow Metro, with the participation of students of the British Higher School of Design at the initial stage of design. Every year, about 200 musical groups and individual performers are licensed to perform in special venues. You can follow the schedule of performs on a special website. Performances are free, musicians don't get paid - they remain street musicians. Musicians perform on weekdays from 10AM to 5PM and from 8PM to 10PM, on weekends from 10AM to 10PM. At the peak hour performances are not held. Here I share some videos from the metro: Music in Metro - Лады Duet - balalaika & bass balalaika Music in Metro. J-FEST 2017 Moscow

Image
This weekend in front of the "Garage" Museum in the Gorky Park the festival of Japanese culture J-FEST held a place. Anyone could get acquainted with the traditional Japanese culture of summer festivals. J-FEST Summer 2017 is a variation on the theme of traditional festivals "Natsu Matsuri", which are held throughout Japan from July to August. At this time, people decorate streets with lanterns, sell souvenirs and gifts, prepare special food and wear traditional yukata summer kimonos. Mass walks are accompanied by national Bon-Odori dances around a special podium, to which everyone can join. Masterclasses on calligraphy and tea ceremony, ikebana and bonsai, dancing and martial arts (aikido, judo, karate, and ninjutsu) were held.  At the festival, people played traditional games of go and shogi, tried Japanese cuisine, get acquainted with the products of Japanese companies. Guard's care at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Image
Most Moscow guests come to the Alexander Garden to see a Changing of the Guard Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (is a war memorial, dedicated to the Soviet soldiers killed during World War II). A Changing of the Guard Ceremony takes place every hour. But very few tourists remain to see a very touching, home-like moment, which always comes in 5-10 minutes after changing of the guard. The officer approaches with a ceremonial step to each guard. He carefully, like his own mother, tells him something, corrects him a hat, uniform, tie, and weapon position. Also, I want to explain that this is an elite Kremlin Regiment, where soldiers are selected corresponding not only to their moral qualities but also to their respective appearance. The sentries are chosen in pairs. Those pairs have the same height, physique, hair color, and so on. All two years of service they go on guard only in their pair.

Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery

Image
Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery is a Russian Orthodox monastery named after St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker. The monastery located in a suburb of Moscow formerly known as Ugreshi and now called Dzerzhinsky. The monastery is known to have existed as early as 1521. The old main church of St. Nicholas was built in the 16th century. A legend attributes its foundation to Dmitry Donskoy, the Prince of Moscow from 1359 to  1389. O n his way to the Kulikovo Field, is supposed to have made a stay there and determined to give a decisive battle to the Tatars after seeing an image of St. Nicholas in a pious dream. He "is reputed to have called out in ecstasy ugresha ("this sets my heart aflame") and founded a monastery on the very spot". The main church of the monastery was built to a Russian-Byzantine design by Alexander Kaminsky between 1880 and 1894. It is one of the largest churches in the Moscow region. After the Russian Revolution, the monastery was closed and was giv...

Times and Epochs. Ancient Rome

Image
This year’s Times and Epochs festival is dedicated to Antiquity, the period that lasted for one thousand years, from 5 B.C to 5 A.D. This period was marked by a multitude of dramatic events in the political, military and economic history. The culture of Ancient Rome became a symbol of Classical Antiquity, absorbing the traditions of the Greeks and through them the traditions of the Etruscans. The guests visited the main thematic areas such as Roman military camp and adjoining park with siege equipment, the Bosporan Kingdom – an interesting mixture of Greek poleis (city-states) and Scythian camps, village of the Celts, the German burg – a fortified town of tribes that did not surrender to the power of the Romans, Judea and Palestine — an intersection of Western and Eastern civilizations, at which arose.
